Formatting, a matter of choice, yours.
One of you recently pointed out that I am not following the usual publishing guidelines for formatting. I'm using the guideline for Non-Fiction instead of the typical fiction template. I'm doing it because I like the extra white space, I think it makes it easier to keep track of where you are, who's talking, etc. But of course, I'm writing for you guys, so maybe you don't like it. I have to admit that I almost exclusively read my books in word since that's what I use to write them and what my editors prefer for correcting all of my mistakes.
I like the format greatly. Your presentation of details is well done.
ReplyDeleteNow when are the twins and their mental link going to be used in a greater part. Can they link over a very long distance. Maybe due to a head bump in a rocky ship ride will connect our girl, the Princess, into their link.
I agree with Lysle that your current formatting is fine. Content is great. Some of your characters remind me of Heinlein and add to a sense of wonder. Thank you for all the hours of enjoyable reading you have given us in the Covid Era.

Perhaps I don't understand what is meant by "white space". If you mean "double spaced" between paragraphs, I have noticed it but just figured it was done as "packing" to make the book have more pages so as to justify a higher price for the book. Otherwise, the left and right margins are all the same (11mm & 6mm, respectively) no matter if the books are fiction or non-fiction. That said, however, the Delphi books are a little harder to read for me.
ReplyDeleteOf course, a lot is dependent on the reading device, reading software, ebook format, font, etc. My setup is: iPad Mini 5 (and 4), MapleRead SE, ePub, font is that of the Publisher, with serif preferred.

DeleteI have found that most kindle reader books are formated this way. I simply love the way your books flow. Keep it up and please don't make me wait too long for the next book,,,PLEASE???
ReplyDeleteI read on kindle and didn’t notice the formatting one way or the other until you mentioned it. The extra pages in a dead tree book might be less good.
ReplyDeleteThere exists hundreds of thousands of different fonts, and the list continues to grow each day. Out of this pool of fonts, there exists the right font for your website. Choosing the right font is not as easy as it sounds, and it's not a matter of just picking fonts from a list of hacked text generator. A lot of thought has to go into choosing the right font based on the studies of typographers past. These faceless artists have worked hard designing type, and have established styles.
